Why Green Chemistry Matters
Characters: Fatimah, Ahmad, and Mayzada
Setting: School Garden at RA Al Furqon Lubuklinggau
Writen by Mardhiyatun Ni’mah
Three students at RA Al Furqon Lubuklinggau are discussing climate change and weather. They want to do something small but meaningful to save the earth from floods and droughts.
Part 1
Fatimah:
Hey everyone! Today’s topic is Green Chemistry. Has anyone heard of it before?
Ahmad:
A little bit. Isn’t it about making chemistry more eco-friendly?
Mayzada:
Yes, exactly! Green Chemistry focuses on designing products and processes that reduce or eliminate hazardous substances.
Fatimah:
Right. It’s all about preventing pollution at the molecular level, rather than cleaning it up afterward.
Ahmad:
Interesting. So, it’s like chemistry with a conscience?
Mayzada:
Nice way to put it! For example, using renewable raw materials instead of fossil fuels, or designing biodegradable plastics.
Fatimah:
And minimizing waste too. One of the 12 principles of green chemistry is “atom economy”—making sure most of the reactants end up in the final product.
Ahmad:
That sounds smart. Does it also mean using less energy?
Mayzada:
Yes. Energy efficiency is a key principle. Reactions at room temperature are better than those needing high heat or pressure.
Fatimah:
Imagine if all industries used green chemistry. It would help fight climate change, reduce toxic waste, and make safer products.
Ahmad:
I never realized chemistry could be so… ethical!
Mayzada:
That’s the goal—science that protects both people and the planet.
Small Steps, Big Difference
Great! Here’s a short English dialogue involving three students at RA Al Furqon Lubuklinggau, discussing climate change, weather, and small actions to help the Earth. The tone is educational, hopeful, and age-appropriate, ideal for a student presentation or short drama.
Characters: Aisyah, Zidan, and Nabila

Aisyah:
Look at the sky… it’s sunny now, but yesterday it rained so hard!
Zidan:
Yeah, the weather changes so fast these days. My mom said it’s because of climate change.
Nabila:
Climate change? Is that the same as global warming?
Aisyah:
Almost. Global warming is part of climate change. It means the Earth is getting hotter because of too much pollution.
Zidan:
And that’s why we have floods and droughts, right?
Nabila:
Yes. When it rains too much, we get floods. But when there’s not enough rain, we get droughts.
Aisyah:
So… what can we do? We’re just students.
Zidan:
Even small things can help! Like turning off the lights when not in use, or bringing our own water bottles.
Nabila:
I also started planting trees with my dad! Trees help absorb carbon dioxide.
Aisyah:
That’s amazing! I want to start something too. Maybe we can make a “Green Class” project?
Zidan:
Great idea! Let’s make posters, plant more flowers, and remind our friends not to litter.
Nabila:
Together, we can protect the Earth. Even from right here in Lubuklinggau!
All (together):
Let’s save the Earth—one small step at a time!
